BMW TIS ETK Installation Instructions

If your CD-ROM is not D: please substitute the correct drive letter you have allocated. (Double-click My Computer and determine which drive letter is your CD-ROM).

PLEASE RESTART your computer whenever instructed to do so. Not doing so and continuing with the installation may cause severe problems which can not only be cured by uninstalling the ETK and TIS programs and then restarting.

Please skip steps 5 and 6 if running Windows 2000

Instead to steps 5 and 6: Open Administrator Tools, then open Data Sources, click add, then select Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb), click finish. Fill in the blanks with the following information: Data Source Name: tis_sa Description:BWM TIS95 Database: click select, then locate the tis.mdb in your C:\BMW95\tis\db\folder
NOTE: If you have installed the database to a different directory than C:\BMW95 please locate the tis.mdb in the appropriate directory.

Install the parts CD (ETK) first:

1. Run file D:\Win95\BMW\ETK\SETUP.EXE (this will install admin utilities).
2. Insert TIS CD
3. Open Sysadmin (installed during #1 above)
4. Click TIS then install. Follow onscreen directions. Note, the HD install is a much longer install but better in the long run (in our opinion). You may receive a "Can not install all graphics" error, this is normal continue installation.
5. Install D:\WIN95/OBC_40\DCOM.98.EXE or DCONSS.EXE (if you're running Windows 95, don't install if running Windows 2000, skip to #7)
6. Install D:\WIN95\ODBC\_40\INSTALL.EXE (not for use with Windows 2000, skip to #7.) Menu, select tis_sa from the list then close.
7. Make sure Sysadmin is running, insert ETK disc.
8. Select EPC, then install. This will install the parts catalog.
9. During EPC installation the install may fail (this is a program bug). Retry from step 7 until it completes. Ding a successful installation, at the EPC Configuration menu type USA in the Country box, Dealer System Server is left blank, and click the US Dealer System checkbox.
10. Installation is now complete. To load the parts database, select TIS program from icon from the program group installed earlier.

Installation is quite lengthy so be patient. A complete install is around 582 MB (766,148,608 bytes and contains about 23066 files in 474 directories.

Note: During parts catalog installation we've sometime seen difficulty.

At approximately 98% of installation's completion it may hang (stop working for a very long period of time). If this happens find the DOS window (the black window) started up by the installer and kill it (this window only). Everything should work fine after that. It does not happen on every computer and we are working to nail it down better.

I would also like to add that upon installation you may be prompted for a password. I entered "berlin56" without the quotation marks and the installation went perfectly. Hope this helps.

Works great under XP - are you trying to install it from the system manager utility? If not, there ya go - if you are, may very well be a fake disc.
